At a workshop at LIMMUD UK in December 2008, we examined the prayer for peace - Sim Shalom. We explored and discussed the format of this prayer, which asked God our Father, Avinu, to grant his children peace. Our discussion turned toward thoughts that peace is taught at a young age as children learn to find harmony as they play. From these ideas, this song evolved. Arnie

I remember the playground long ago
Learned to share, and keep my hands at home
I’d clean up when I’m done, and leave your things alone
Told you I’m sorry when I’m wrong
Pinky swear that we would get along
And give back what I borrow, Seems to me…

Sim Shalom, shalom, it seems so long in coming
Please Avinu, Father open up our hearts
To see shalom, Sim Shalom,
To see shalom, Sim Shalom, Shalom
I been watching the fighting on TV
Seems so far away from you and me
We’re forgetting all our manners, and the things we learned in school
I’m thinking any plan for peace
Gotta start at home with you and me
And what we teach our children, cause they’re watching all we do (CH
Are we watching what we’re doing
Or doing what we’re watching, what we see (CH
