Project ben David - the music of Arnie Davidson: Hear Music/Videos

Elu D'varim

(Friday Night Music Project - featuring Ellen Harris)
Dedicated, with love, to the memory of Bernie Schaffer, whose life was a joyous song.
When I write music, it is more like finding the music that lives in the lyrics or prayer. The encouragement to do this came, largely, from the members of the Friday Night Music Project (FNMP) , our synagogue band. During one very rainy day, in Glastonbury, CT, we were able to get together and record Elu D'varim together with friends Shelly Aronson and Laura Bennett. Beth Schafer was able to capture the energy of our friendship in this recording. At the end of this productive autumn day, after a full day of recording this song, the skies cleared and a huge rainbow filled the eastern sky. The parsha that week was Noah. I remember Beth looking up at the sky, and saying "Noach, G_d approves." I hope that you agree.
There was great friendship and contagious energy in the room for this recording. Enjoy!

Elu D’varim
She-ein la-hem she-ur
These deeds are without measure
And without measure their rewards

To honor father, mother;
U’g’milut hasadim. (do righteous deeds)
Attend the house of study daily,
Morning, noon and eve
Elu D’varim

To welcome strangers as your family;
U Bikur Cholim. (visit the sick)
Share wedding joy with bride and groom;
Console with the bereaved
Elu Dvarim

To pray from deep within your heart,
Lead friends in strife toward peace.
But equal to them all is Talmud Torah (the study of Torah)
For it leads, to all the other deeds
